Look Back to the 2000's Decade
for the Hospital Radio
The first couple of years of the decade will be remembered for the dismantling and re-assembling of the radio studios, after a move was imposed upon us. A cold evening in January 2000 came the confirmation, the existing studio's would need vacating to make way for other services.
The start of the decade also welcomed the radio and League of Friends to a presence on the World Wide Web.
Some events that shaped the 2000's:-
A major event for the radio in 2003 was the introduction of twenty four hour broadcasting using computers ( Rhapsody ).
This decade finally welcomed a new bedhead system of TV&Radio, installed during 2003, it was finally connected to the hospital radio in 2004.
After the bedhead system was installed the loan radio service was retired having provided an excellent service for a number of years.
New training was devised to encompass the use of the computers in the day to day broadcasting. Volunteer presenters were given an intensive course on all aspects of the service and were trained in pairs.
As the decade came to an end, services and wards on the hospital were closed and reduced and financial worries resurrected the question of the viability of the hospital. In addition we were forewarned the radio would have to move at some point. The radio decided to suspend all recruitment.
