1983 All Change at the Studio's

Studio 1976 to 1983

The original studio room was only 12ft x 12ft any expansion plans for the studio was restricted by the fact the adjoining room was the equipment room for the switchboard and the other wall was an outside wall.

Tucked at the end of the corridor on the ground floor of Maternity we were limited to what we could achieve.

Singles & LP's Rack

In January 1983 changes were made to the library rack taking out the right hand at the end and just having a straight rack along the length of the wall.

Dexion Racks

This gave more space to hold records on the Dexion shelves. This move was carried out by Dave And PJ.

Studio 1983 to 1984

The studio complex was added to when the hospital switchboard moved to a new location. The studio was increased in size to 12ft x 20ft. This addition prompted the move of the main mixer into the new room and to be the new studio one.

The vacated room would initially be used as library space. Later it was designated as studio two and an attempt was made to create one.

The creation of studio one was completed in March 1983.

Studio One 1983

The picture above Richard Worrall And Peter Hewitt, appeared in the local press. Peter along with his colleague Keith Jones undertook the move of the studio. Bill Berry founder member of the radio played a part in the creation of the new studio.

It was Bill who knocked the hole in the wall for the adjoining window.

On arriving at the studio one Saturday, a large hole was in the wall with no glass. Very strange trying to produce a program with a voice that echo's around the room as you speak.

That was the year that was “1983”
