December 31st 2010
At 7.02Am on Friday 31st December. The inductive loop AM service for Radio Heatherwood was turned off. The final records played were “So Strong by Labi Siffre” and “Songbird by Kenny G”. After the news, the service was faded out.
It's a sad day for the radio service at Heatherwood.
In 1987/88 a lot of hard work and fundraising was carried out by the volunteers to install the system which went live on Easter Saturday 1988.
The removal off the AM service ushers in a new era for the radio, one of uncertainty as we still await the outcome and future for the hospital.

This year we will not be renewing the AM service licence with Ofcom. It is the intention of Radio Heatherwood to turn off the am service at the end of the year.
This has been prompted by less long stay patients and the move to a digital radio service which means personal AM radio’s are very difficult to obtain and an AM radio is not part of people’s personal music equipment.
The am service was originally installed in 1988 and has provided many hours of enjoyment for the inpatients and staff of Heatherwood.
Radio Heatherwood will still provide a service on the bed head units supplied by hospicom.

Radio Heatherwood has once again been chosen by the Victoria Hall Trust to receive a donation of £200 towards it's music licence for the coming year.
Radio Heatherwood always values the support of the trust who each year ensure our listeners can listen to their favourite tunes.
