Heatherwood Fete Day 1986
In the early days of the fete; having an adequate PA system which could be heard, was always a very hit and miss affair.
As PJ took over the engineering some years earlier he had embarked on a plan to purchase new speakers and two amplifiers which would deliver a good sound.
In May a new amp and a set of column speakers were purchased, this offered adequate coverage across all the fete area.
Each year the setting up of the pa would entail the radio staff being on site by 10am and running out cables to all the speaker points. Eight points were involved and by the time the PA was complete it was time to open the fete.
At the end of the day after everyone had gone home, the PA was dismantled and another hour was spent in putting it away.
This year was a milestone for this event, as for the first time a good quality signal was relayed across the fete ground and the bed head system, patients were able to listen to the music and speeches.
The live program from the fete included interviews with slimmer of the year; Donna ? and the Runnymede brass band leader. Gordon a patient from ward 4 was also interviewed.
Nanette Newman came along and officiated, Nannette toured the stalls afterwards and visited the wards and Radio Heatherwood and remained on hand to sign autographs.
