A Year to Remember
In the last quarter of the year events at the radio and league would shape the station for years to come.
An event which took place at the AGM of the league left all those concerned with a bitter taste in their mouths. We are not able to print here the events or name of those concerned, sadly for the staff left to pick up the pieces, the year will always be remembered for the actions of those individuals who sought to discredit what had gone before.
The year had produced some new friends with sponsors, ex patients and a better working relationship with the trust. We had increased our financial support from outside groups and the Loan radio service was taking off in a big way, also staff spent extra time at the studio's offering a Sunday service.
The grand draw night was only opened to members of staff and a buffet was laid on.
Studio one and two were altered on the wooden consoles to cater for two CD players side by side on the shelves also a talkback arrangement was installed.
The increasing use of CD's prompted the change as previously they could not sit side by side on the consoles.
Gordon Young was asked to assist with the temporary radio service at Camberley. Engineering and training was provided by Gordon and the radio station.
As the year drew to a close a new advert for volunteers was placed in the local papers.
Roy Ryman New League of Friends Chairman Writes 17/12/1991:-
Dear Peter
Just a note to thank you for your letter and the informative contents.
I realize what a difficult year it has been for Radio Heatherwood and especially for David and yourself, but would like to say how well you have both dealt with the situation and hope that it was all lost in amongst the numerous good things you have always done for the station. For you to do anything other than carry on,although I realise how you felt, would be a total disaster for Radio Heatherwood, and so from now on we as a league will appreciate the services of you both even more if that is possible.
I can assure you that under my chairmanship we will give you both our trust and support.
Thank you for your letter,I wish you and yours a very happy Christmas and a peaceful new year.
Best Wishes Roy Ryman
