1995 Year Nineteen Story Unfolds

1995 was a very busy year for the station management and as the year unfolded there was much to do and organise

For further information about this year:- Follow the links

Bracknell bandstand

On Saturday 12th August this years bandstand proved a hot spot to be with records books and bric-a-brac quickly snapped up by punters.

Dave Griffiths, Dave Smith, PJ, Lisa, Barry, Keith, Lance, and not forgetting Rebecca who were the stars of the spectacle £214.40 from the sale. We also raised £49.50 from the sale of tickets.

And in the End

It only seems yesterday that it was January 1995 but twelve months later where have they gone ?.

The fortunes for the radio station this last year has been mixed. The station was on a high as we moved into the new year with work progressing on the new room, Sweethearts ball three took place in February, Staffing levels at the turn of the year were at 25 the highest it's been for many a year. The year also saw the introduction of the first jingles on CD courtesy of Kevin and crew.

We introduced the leaflet for the loan radios which has helped tremendously with the sale of batteries and made more people aware of the service. We sent a letter to the hospital clearly spelling out the state of the radio systems and seeking some commitment from them.( still waiting for an answer to a project suggestion).

The room with a view project received support from royal connections with the Duke of Edinburgh trust donating to the project. Room with a view finally comes to an end and is opened in July.

It was the year of the eleventh Grand Draw, a successful market stall and bandstand selling days. The twelve hour broadcast in November proves a winner with the patients and also produces another quality batch of jingles on CD.

On the down side for the year we lost ward nine on the am service Channel 4 on the bedheads died, ward two a near disaster was averted over the re-siting of an aerial. Loan radios' were broken and a large amount have been written off, donations for the last three months of the year have been abysmal.

The station has seen some good people go this year we shall miss Gordon Young, Mark Porch, Tony Gardner, Graham Hyman, Colin & Lesley Archer, David Griffiths.

At a time when David and I should be resting and enjoying the fruits of our labours over the last few years we have grave concerns over what lies ahead with the possible damage which will occur to both radio systems. Despite one step forward with the hospital we are taking three steps back as changes seem to occur. The fortunes of the radio are dominated by many contributing factors; not least of which is the calibre of staff we have today. It's their contribution which determines how far forward we progress with the ideas.

Don't forget it's your radio station as well as the patients, your commitment secures the future for Radio Heatherwood.

On behalf of Lee David and Myself we would like to thank everyone for their splendid support this last year. It's been difficult but we came through and I'm sure we made thousands more members of the public more aware of the service we provide.

Best wishes to you and your families for the Christmas Holiday see you all in 1996, when we'll do it all again!!!!

P. J. Davidson-Smith Secretary December 1995
