11th August Ward Report
Katie and I had a mixed bag evening last night.
We logged 1 person onto Wi-fi, gave another person Wi-fi details for when their husband brought their laptop in the next day, and we gave out 3 radios. We got a few requests from 2 patients which gave us a good selection of songs.
On the not so good side, 1 of the internet radios was turning on but then wouldn't connect to any of the pre-set radio stations. We've left this radio by the signing in book in the hope some magic can be done to fix it!.
New Base Stations
New improved n series Wi-fi base stations are installed in ward 4.
16th August Ward Report
Very busy on ward 4. There was only 1 empty bed. I helped 2 people connect and gave out 4 lots of the leaflets. A lady in the middle section complimented the Wi-fi and radio service and said that it has helped her through Her time at Heatherwood.
Two of the side wards had patients in and both using the WiFi..All in all a happy bunch today.

Ward 4 was busy, most beds taken. I gave out two sets of headphones and connected 4 patients. Most people knew about the Wi-fi. One lady had a laptop and had used the Wi-fi since Friday morning. There was a patient who had an i-Phone and a Samsung phone.
A couple of nice comments about the service and that people were very grateful.
2014 was a very busy year for the station management and as the year unfolded there was much to do and organise

Hospital Future
PJ Writes:-
The trust has been taken over by Frimley as from the 1st October and a number of articles have been published in the paper.
An article in the Bracknell news this week does shed light on the fact that they do intend to sell off a large chunk of the site and provide a specialist unit elective surgery operation with 50 beds.
In the article it says £60 million in debt was written off by the government and the expected new unit is likely to cost 50 million of which they are hoping to raise half from the sale of the land.
I still think we are going to have to wait some time before we know what the final outcome will be for the site and the league of friends.
Android type devices version Chrome
More issues for chrome users the current version will not allow our player to work, they can use the windows play on the page but not our player.
A problem throughout this year has been the updates by the chrome browser which regularly disabled our player on our rhapsody listening page.
6th October Ward Report
Today Jenny and I handed out 3 radios and helped 2 people log on.
We removed another radio from the ward because all its pre-sets had disappeared. It is now in reception awaiting the sonic screwdriver.
Internet Radio's Tampering
A new problem with the use of the internet radios this year has been tampering with their setup rendering their station pre-sets un-usable.
13th October Ward Report
Jenny and I dished out 2 radios tonight and helped 2 people log on. There was a 3rd gentleman who had already found rhapsody but couldn't get any pages to load. We tried everything in our toolbox such as logging out and in again and disconnecting the trust Wi-fi but no luck. Any ideas anyone?

15th November Ward Report
Wards not that busy.
Gave out one ward radio. Had a chat with one of the patients, she was telling me that she volunteers for five charities, she is retired and has the time to help others and been doing it for a number of years. She was very pleased that she was able to listen to the hospital.
3 other people had already found the Wi-Fi.

Air Cooler Engineering
The air cooler in engineering has decided to meet the great big cooler heaven and so has been disconnected and is in reception for disposal. We will look at purchasing a new one sometime in the new year, before the warm weather returns. It has been running for seven years non stop, so not bad service .
15th December Ward Report
Tonight Jenny and I gave out 2 radios and helped 2 people log on as well as having a nice natter with the patients, relatives and staff.
Wi-fi Link From Radio Web Site
I have today made a link to listen to Radio Heatherwood in the left hand sidebar of every web page on the main radio site.
This should make it easier to log into the service if you are a patient and arrive at one of the pages. Clicking on the picture of the radio will direct you to the listen page.
Connected 2013 - 2014
The service was launched in 2013 and now has completed it's second year, we are now able to show both years figures and see the improvement in the amount of users year on year.
Total Usage Hours 2014
In 2013 the total hours for the year was 9099.in 2014 it has grown to 18,504 hours doubling on the previous years usage.
Data Downloads and Uploads
Another year draws to a close and as the station continues to hold on, there has been some high spots during the year and our volunteers have felt encouraged as the year has progressed.
The weekly reports from the wards have helped us all to understand what's happening and the level of support which is being received from grateful staff and patients.
Ensuring the success of the service has been the work done on improving the web pages both on the internet and the rhapsody Wi-fi. In addition the visits to the ward by Mondays and Saturdays has ensured the promotion of the rhapsody Wi-fi.
In 2009 we were first told about the closure of the studio and the demise of the hospital, we are at the end of 2014 and yet we are still here and pressing onward with our future.
We still don't know how this is going to pan out, but for the meantime it's business as usual!.
Those making a difference and maintaining Radio Heatherwood are Dave Smith, PJ Davidson-Smith, Ian Butcher, Katie Ayers,Jenny Gallagher.
Our sincere thanks go out to all our volunteers and the league of friends for their continued support.
