Radio Heatherwood 2016 Year Forty, a look back at the events and deeds of 2016 on Radio Heatherwood.

Background

Welcome to the history pages for 2016, as we ended 2015 we were optimistic that 2016 would be the turnaround for the station and hospital.

How wrong we were, as you will see here the station lost it’s right to be on site, no accommodation was to be made available in the new build,40 years of voluntary service would come to a close caused by decisions made by third parties of which we were not party too.

The station was in the final stages of completing its internet listening stream and was gearing up for a launch on its 40th birthday.

The months of January and February see the departure of two valid volunteers and the final stages of technical completion of the radio internet stream.

Stories and snippets of information taken from the staff newsletter and from behind the scenes.

January 2016

January

  1. 1stTest shoutcast stream to web hosts are established, £8 for three months.
    This was setup so that issues outstanding with sending the radio service to the internet could be resolved.
  2. 6thWi-fi figures published 2013-2015 on facebook.
    On facebook the latest figures on the use of the Wi-Fi by ward 4. We launched the service in December 2012 and have been monitoring the usage over the last three years. It's only available to patients and staff of ward 4, but year on year the figures show how important it is for access to Wi-fi for smart devices.

  4. 14thMusic request facebook page created.
    A new facebook & twitter page was set-up RadioHeatherwoodMusicrequests. A direct link was setup using a form on the Facebook page which allowed music requests to be made and these would display on the pc’s in the studio.

    Facebook page enabling listeners to send requests and keep up to date with what's playing.

  7. 21st1 week trial zfast.
    Looking for the right hosting company for the radio stream this company ditched, level of tech support not very helpful,web host cancelled after one week.
  8. 23rdNew shoutcast account setup, 96kb.
    Shoutca.st company setup.This account set-up to evaluate the quality of the stream.
  9. 26thKatie Ayers & Jenny Gallagher say goodbye.
  10. Our last lady volunteers from Mondays decide to call it a day. Katie having completed ten and half years service and Jenny completing seven and half. They were the main stay for the radio ensuring patients on ward 4 knew about the wi-fi and got them connected. Two stars who always shined for the hospital radio.

  1. 1stLeague of friends quarterly meeting.
    Quarterly meeting with hospital, no information about the arrangements for the league’s assets in the future.
  2. 4thWeb Wi-fi videos updated.
    The Wi-Fi videos showing users on rhapsody how to get the best out of listening were updated and added to you tube.
  3. 6thRadiodj album art updating web page.
    RadioDJ the new live assist software for the presenter was linked with the Shoutca.st stream and was updating the web page as each item played.
  4. 19thWard poster 2016 A4.

The new ward poster was completed. This was for display around the hospital. An update on the previous poster for ward 4, it now included the methods of listening to the new internet stream of the hospital radio. The posters were all laminated to maintain their longevity.

  1. 22ndFeature story news, three months subscription, £10.55 per month.
    Finding a news service to use at the top of each hour was limited on choice, this American news service was cheap but concentrated on American news, we ditched the contract after a couple of weeks. Early March fsnnews account closed, news not suitable.
