  1. 1stEmail from trust.
Thank you for getting back to us.
  2. I quite understand your reasons for deciding to call it a day and wish you well for the future. Not only that, of course, but a big thank you for all the work you, your brother and others have done in the past.

    Forty and.............Out
  4. After forty years at Heatherwood, It is with great sadness that we confirm Radio Heatherwood will pass into the history books.

  6. In preparation for the new hospital, along with other 3rd parties, we have been given notice to leave. It appears our building is in the way.
  7. We are currently broadcasting 24/7 on the Rhapsody Wi-Fi and the internet. Whilst technology allows us to broadcast from anywhere to the hospital, the friend at the end of the bed has always been what it is about.
  8. Peter is staying as an ordinary member of the league, our parent body, to maintain the radio and League of Friends web sites, Ian Butcher will remain on the League Committee, I shall remain as the League Treasurer.
  9. The Final Hour programme is made up of a selection from the patients top 20 of 1986, broadcasting from 09.00 to 10.00 on Saturday 3rd December 2016, tune in and catch a piece of local history. As this is going to be an emotional day for David, PJ & Ian, the computer will be playing a recorded programme.
  10. Our thanks goes to the hospital staff, always pleased to see us, the many friends we made over the years.
  11. Whilst talking of friends, the one friend to all of us that is Radio Heatherwood, visited by David and PJ for 37yrs, Ian for 16yrs, is going to be missed dearly.
  12. The full story of our demise can be found on our facebook page, facebook.com/RadioHeatherwood/
  13. Finally, although it was explained to BT about our situation, not of our choice etc, they are still going to charge us £1,000 for terminating our phone and broadband early, nice understanding people, NOT.

  20. Were it not for John and his early comrades and the voluntary work they put in, the radio would have not been here today.
  21. A sad day for John and us all, as with just two weeks left of broadcasting, the station gets ready to turn the turntables off for the final time.
  22. Thanks John for sharing your experiences of those early days.

After a donation of £40,000 was made in the summer of 2016, by our parent body the League Of Friends, to the hospital trust for a new laser for the Urology department. A presentation of the new laser was arranged for the 23rd November at the theatre's at Heatherwood. We were to meet the consultant in charge of this fine and worthy piece of equipment. In the afternoon a small reception/afternoon tea at the Windlesham Golf Club to say thanks and to meet the chairman of Frimley health Trust.
  26. In the morning all went well and we were all impressed by the effect the laser would have on waiting times and the speed and less invasive surgery it would have in treating patients.
  27. Although I was at this presentation, it was with my League Of Friends "Hat" on, it would be the same for the afternoon. On arrival in the afternoon at the golf club, the trust reps gave the chairman's apology, he had been called away, there were 4 reps from the trust in attendance.
  28. A lovely buffet/afternoon tea greeted us and we all sat down to enjoy.
  29. The topic of conversation encouraged by the trust reps was of the sad farewell to the radio station in a month's time. I was called upon to give a history of the station through the years, so away went my League of Friends hat and put on my Radio Heatherwood hat. Afterwards the conversation was general in terms of reference with regards to the new Heatherwood hospital.
  30. It was a surprise to me that this meeting was also about the radio station, upon arrival at the reception, a poster (as shown) announcing the reception for the Volunteers of Radio Heatherwood and presumably to thank us before closing, for 40 years of Radio Heatherwood.

  33. It would appear that someone somewhere got the wires crossed, although the League of Friends was there, they are the parent body, the people actually deserving of this were not. I (as Radio staff), was only there by default and not by intention, sadly a chance to thank the rest of the radio staff was missed. PJ Davidson-Smith, Ian Butcher, along with myself, the remaining staff of Radio Heatherwood, were blissfully unaware that this had been arranged.None the less, the reception was gratefully received and due thanks given at the end before all of us headed home.
